1 Samuel 25 - Nabal, Abigail, and the LORD's Vengeance

  1. Samuel dies and all Israel mourns him (v. 1).
  2. The narrator introduces Nabal and Abigail before the conflict begins (vv. 23).
  3. David sends ten men to Nabal request (vv. 49).
  4. Nabal responds with contempt.
  5. David arms four hundred men and rides to destroy Nabal's household (vv. 1213).
  6. Abigail acts without hesitation and without telling Nabal (vv. 1419).
  7. Abigail's speech is the theological center of the chapter (vv. 2431), reminding David that the king is to inquire of the Lord and not waste himself on worthless men.
  8. David blesses Abigail and accepts her restraint (vv. 3235), realizing the Lord has restrained him from sin yet again.
  9. We receive an update on David’s wives.
