- In this passage, we get to witness what evangelism was like for the apostles early on in the church, after gentiles had entered the picture. Throughout the last few chapters, Luke has been detailing to us the events in the church which solidified Gentiles as an audience of the Gospel and equal members of the church.
- Paul and Barnabas, following the command from Christ to "bring salvation to the ends of the earth", have travelled north of Cyprus into modern-day Turkey, to teach the gospel, still showing up first in the synagogues to do so, finding both Jews and Gentiles responding with belief.
- In each location in chapter 14, we see a pattern emerge: Paul and Barnabas proclaim the gospel, resulting in some who believe with true faith and become disciples, and others responding with rejection of the apostles and the gospel they bring.
- The apostles are always driven out eventually by the unbelieving people, but they leave and build up the church that will remain without them.
- Our own evangelism needs to be done in a similar fashion, where we cast a wide net with bold proclamation, endeavoring to build and strengthen the local church to survive the trials and persecution they will encounter.
